Kit approached me in early 2020 with the desire to update her logo and packaging for Kit’s Garden, LLC products. After our initial contact, we met up at a local coffee shop where I learned through our conversation of her family history on the 35 acre farm in north Rochester Hills, the love she has for tending her chickens and expansive organic vegetable garden, and her vision for the continued success of Kit’s Garden into the future. She brought a photo of the big old barn that stands tall and proud on her property as well as examples of some of the labels she had been using for the wide variety of products she offers through seasonal farm shares and local farmer’s markets.

After getting to know Kit and and the personality of Kit’s Garden, I spent time thoroughly evaluating similar and competing businesses and brands in the area, researching their offerings, audience and reach in order to develop a complete picture of the market and audience that Kit’s Garden nests within. She was clear that she did not want an overly complex or colorful design, and that rang true with her brand’s overall personality. Kit’s Garden and its offerings are of the earth: wholesome and full of intention. Everything is worked with her very own hands and tended with a deep love of the land and it’s creatures. All of these qualities informed the design process to develop a logo and brand identity that Kit loved and that spoke for itself.

The use of black line illustration of the chicken, fresh tomatoes and beautiful fresh greens highlights some of her most popular offerings: fresh farm eggs, heirloom vegetables (“especially the tomatoes” according to Kit), and fresh greens and herbs. The illustration is complemented by a simple, golden circle which evokes images of a fresh, creamy egg yoke, a rising and setting sun, and the warmth a small local farm brings to the community.

The final branding package for this project included three interchangeable versions of the logo design, labels for produce and products and marketing materials (business cards, brochure, farmstand banner, etc.).

A MESSAGE FROM THE CLIENT:

Abby took my ideas for renovating the labels and logo design and created 5 different logos with different type styles for me to choose. I liked 2 designs better and she created some more drawings with those. We corresponded by emails and that worked very well. She has great color picks and gradation choices for backgrounds.
